Territorial Agency: Oceans in Transformation
Ocean Space, Venice, 2020-21
Oceans in Transformation is the culmination of over three years of intersectional research by Territorial Agency, a collective of architects committed to mapping and analysing the world’s oceans and the human impact on them. The exhibition commences with an LED horizon on the exterior façade of the Chiesa di San Lorenzo, marking the projected sea-level rise by the end of the century, and includes a 35-channel video and sound installation in the interior space that synthesises the duos' research.
D.H.office coordinated all aspects of the exhibition production, including the fabrication of new works of art, working with Territorial Agency to design the exhibition, overseeing the construction of all display elements and their installation, managing visitor services and daily operations, and organising documentation of the exhibition.
The powerful and immediate external intervention of the LED “high water mark”, titled When Above... on the church’s façade required special permitting from the cultural superintendent and the city of Venice as the building is a protected monument. D.H.office's close relationship to these bodies ensured a smooth, efficient and successful permitting request.
