Dale Chihuly: Chihuly: Venice 2026
Various Locations, 2026

CHIHULY: Venice 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Dale Chihuly's landmark project Chihuly Over Venice (1996), returning the artist to the city that fundamentally shaped his career. Presented by Pilchuck Glass School and Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, the project comprises three monumental new glass sculptures installed along the Grand Canal — all visible from the Accademia Bridge — together with an interpretive and archival centre housed at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti at Palazzo Loredan, Campo Santo Stefano, which opened on 5 May 2026 concurrent with the Venice Biennale.

The archival centre, curated by Suzanne Geiss, presents drawings, photographs, videos, and documentation charting the evolution of Chihuly's process and the making of Chihuly Over Venice, accompanied by a grouping of Golden Celadon Baskets created at Pilchuck Glass School. An accompanying catalogue, edited by Geiss, was published in May 2026. The Grand Canal sculptures extend the formal vocabulary Chihuly developed in the decades following his original 1968–69 Fulbright fellowship at the Venini factory on Murano.
