Philip Colbert: The Lobstars Break Free in Venice

Coinciding with the inauguration of the 59th Venice Biennale, British artist Philip Colbert’s Lobstar installation marks the launch of a project to release 7,777 lobsters into the wild, corresponding to his digital community of 7,777 unique avatars known as The Lobstars. Recognised for his pioneering work in the metaverse, the large-scale inflatable Lobstar character, mounted on a barge and travelling up and down the Giudecca canal, is also the most considerable natural-world intervention for the artist to date.
